AME Publishing Company and Tencent jointly announced the launch of the Journal of Medical Artificial Intelligence (JMAI) at the 2018 China “Internet Plus” Digital Economic Summit held in Chongqing on April 12, 2018, showing their ambition in developing medical artificial intelligence (AI).

The cooperation between AME and Tencent will focus on scientific research and academic publishing. It will be all-round and multi-level, with an attempt to establish a brand-new platform for Chinese clinicians in the field of medical AI. From a long-term perspective, both parties will focus on scientific research and currently available technology to establish a collaborative medical AI platform. Also, by actively collaborating with clinical medical experts, AME and Tencent will vigorously carry out scientific research projects on medical AI and provide academic support and technical assistance for clinical experts. To achieve their medium-term cooperation plan, both parties will join hands to launch a peer-reviewed English journal in medical AI, so as to expedite the research and development in this industry. To promote their short-term cooperation, AME and Tencent will carry out a series of specialized training events to narrow down the gap between clinical experts and AI scientists and thus promote the efficient integration of knowledge, expertise, and skills (Figures 1,2).
